This study is a narrative review aimed at identifying the dietary patterns of riverine communities in the Western Amazon and the associated factors. The review focuses on the food landscape of riverine populations in this region. The research was conducted using databases such as BVS, PubMed, Google Scholar, and SciELO, employing search terms "Riverine Communities" and "Diet," with articles from the past five years. The analysis revealed that the riverine diet is primarily based on cassava flour and fish, though it varies according to the seasonality of natural resources. Food insecurity is prevalent due to social, economic, and health vulnerabilities. Mercury contamination from mining represents an additional challenge, affecting the quality of fish, a primary protein source. In conclusion, food insecurity among riverine communities in the Western Amazon is exacerbated by unsustainable practices and socioeconomic challenges. Integrated public policies are crucial for promoting environmental conservation and sustainable development, thus improving food security and quality of life for these populations.
