Virus del papiloma humano e infertilidad masculina: explorando la relación entre la infección y la salud reproductiva

El virus del papiloma humano (VPH) es una infección de transmisión sexual muy prevalente y un factor de riesgo importante para varias enfermedades malignas, como el cáncer de cuello uterino. Aunque es ampliamente reconocido por sus consecuencias sobre la salud ginecológica, el impacto del VPH sobre la fertilidad masculina, especialmente con respecto a la calidad del semen y la salud reproductiva, ha sido subestimado. Este estudio tiene como objetivo explorar los efectos del VPH en la fertilidad masculina, analizando cómo la presencia del virus en el semen puede comprometer parámetros como la motilidad espermática, la morfología y la fragmentación del ADN. La investigación se realizó a través de una revisión sistemática de las bases de datos PubMed y SciELO, incluyendo estudios clínicos e informes de casos. Los resultados indican que la infección por VPH en el semen se asocia con cambios en la función de las glándulas accesorias, como la próstata y las vesículas seminales, comprometiendo la calidad del semen y reduciendo las tasas de concepción. Además, la infección puede estar relacionada con problemas como la astenozoospermia y el aumento de la fragmentación del ADN del esperma. La conclusión es que la detección temprana y el tratamiento adecuado de la infección por VPH son esenciales para preservar la fertilidad masculina y una concepción exitosa. El seguimiento médico continuo y la implementación de enfoques terapéuticos específicos son fundamentales para mejorar los resultados reproductivos en las parejas afectadas por el VPH.
