Abstract

Introduction: Cervical cancer is caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), being the third most common type of cancer in people with female sexual organs in Brazil. From screening methods, it can be preventable. Objective: To analyze the profile of deaths from cervical cancer using data from the Mortality Information System (SIM) and to observe the expenses for the SUS, using the Hospital Information System (SIH). Methodology: A descriptive ecological study with a quantitative approach was carried out between the years 2018 and 2022. The variables age, sex, place of occurrence of death and population estimates by macro-region were selected. Results: The age groups 55 to 59 (13.9%) were the most affected and hospitals were the places with the highest number of deaths (83.7%). The highest number of deaths from cervical cancer occurred in the Southeast region (32.3%), however, the mortality rate in the North region stood out (31.3%). During all the years analyzed, the highest number of deaths was seen in 2022 (21.1%). Discussion and conclusion: When looking at expenditures, the highest expenditure is noted in the Northeast region, in 2022 and with patients aged between 40 and 44 years old. By understanding the interconnection between mortality and costs, it is possible to understand the financial expenses and morbidity and mortality caused by cervical cancer in Brazil.
