Breastfeeding is an exceptional act for the health of the neonate, as it exerts a significant influence on the individual's early nutritional experiences, altering their susceptibility to the development of comorbidities such as childhood obesity - a chronic-degenerative and multifactorial disease considered one of the greatest public health problems worldwide. Thus, the objective of this study is to investigate, interpret, and review findings on breastfeeding and its connection with childhood obesity. For this purpose, the Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (MEDLINE/PubMed) database was used, under the descriptors "Breastfeeding" and "Childhood obesity," with the selection of review articles and original articles, following eligibility criteria. A total of 833 texts were found, with an initial selection of 139, of which 22 eligible articles remained. The articles, written in English, also included publications by authors and journals from different nationalities. Most articles covered the years 2016 (four) and 2018 (four), with a large portion published in the last five years. Finally, it is evident that breastfeeding brings benefits both in the short term, as it provides adequate nutritional support necessary for the child's initial development, and in the long term, being an important protective factor against childhood obesity.
