Abstract

Skin cancer is a common oncological condition, with melanoma and basal cell carcinoma being the most prevalent types. During pregnancy, the diagnosis and treatment of skin cancer present unique challenges due to the physiological changes in the skin of pregnant women and considerations regarding the safety of the fetus. This study aims to evaluate the challenges in the diagnosis and treatment options for skin cancer in pregnant women. The research was carried out through a systematic review in the PubMed and SciELO databases, analyzing studies and clinical case reports. The results indicated that typical skin changes during pregnancy, such as hyperpigmentation, can hinder the early detection of malignant lesions. The treatment of skin cancer in pregnant women mainly involves surgery, such as excision of the lesions, and therapies such as radiotherapy and chemotherapy should be carefully avoided, especially in the first trimester due to the risk of harm to the fetus. It is concluded that early diagnosis and a personalized therapeutic approach are essential to ensure a good response to treatment, minimizing risks for both the mother and the fetus. Collaboration between dermatologists, oncologists and obstetricians is essential for the effective and safe management of skin cancer during pregnancy.
