The song Maria Maria, by Milton Nascimento and Fernando Brant, transcends its musical structure to become a symbol of resilience and Brazilian identity. Through a hermeneutic approach, this article analyzes how the piece reflects the adversities and strength of the Brazilian people, not limiting itself to a specific representation of gender or class but capturing the collective essence of overcoming challenges. Based on thinkers such as Hans-Georg Gadamer, Paul Ricoeur, and Aristotle, the study explores the philosophical dimension of the music and its timelessness as a narrative of resistance. The research highlights how Maria Maria fits into the tradition of Brazilian popular music as an anthem of courage and perseverance, continuously resignifying itself over time as part of the national cultural imagination.
