Clinical and pharmacotherapeutic management of hypertensive emergencies in the emergency room

Systemic arterial hypertension (SAH) is a chronic multifactorial condition associated with high morbidity and mortality rates due to its complications, such as hypertensive emergencies. These are characterized by extreme elevation of blood pressure accompanied by target organ damage, requiring immediate interventions to reduce the risk of death and severe complications. This study addresses current guidelines for the clinical and pharmacological management of these emergencies, highlighting the importance of early diagnosis, intensive monitoring, and personalized treatment with a focus on fast-acting drugs. Specific cases, such as hypertensive gestational syndrome, are also analyzed due to their relevance in maternal mortality. The adoption of rapid and effective strategies is essential to improve patient outcomes and minimize sequelae resulting from decompensated SAH.
