Abstract

Dengue fever, transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, remains a major public health problem, especially in tropical regions such as Pernambuco, Brazil. This study aimed to analyze the evolution of dengue cases in the state of Pernambuco between 2019 and 2024, with an emphasis on hospitalized cases, using data from the Notifiable Diseases Information System (SINAN). The results indicate significant fluctuations in the incidence of the disease, with peaks in hospitalizations in 2021 and 2024, reflecting the severity of infections in those years. The circulation of multiple serotypes of the virus, climatic conditions favorable to the proliferation of the vector, and the increasing resistance of Aedes aegypti to insecticides were important factors in the intensification of outbreaks. The study highlights the need to improve vector control strategies, strengthen epidemiological surveillance, and promote population awareness campaigns. Innovative initiatives, such as the use of genetically modified mosquitoes and dengue vaccines, are also discussed as alternatives in combating the disease.
