Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has had significant impacts on children's mental health, drastically changing the daily lives of children around the world. Social isolation, school closures, increased domestic violence and economic insecurity have created an environment conducive to the development of psychological disorders. Studies reviewed for this article identified an increase in cases of anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress in children aged 5 to 12. These impacts vary in intensity depending on factors such as family support, access to educational resources, and mental health services. Furthermore, deficits in cognitive and social development highlight the severity of long-term consequences. This article discusses strategies to mitigate these effects, including evidence-based interventions and public policies that promote psychosocial support and equal access to education. Based on the data analyzed, the urgency of coordinated actions to protect and promote child well-being during future crises is emphasized.
