Resumo

Population aging represents one of the most significant demographic transformations of contemporary societies, creating new challenges and opportunities for public health systems. Healthy aging involves more than the absence of disease, encompassing functional capacity, autonomy, participation, social relationships, and quality of life. This academic essay discusses strategies for promoting healthy aging among older adults from a public health perspective. The discussion analyzes theoretical foundations of aging and well-being, examines challenges affecting older populations, and explores strategies capable of strengthening health promotion and comprehensive care. The essay argues that healthy aging requires integrated approaches addressing chronic disease prevention, functional preservation, social participation, age-friendly environments, and equitable access to healthcare services. Public health policies must recognize older adults as active participants in society and develop interventions that promote autonomy, dignity, and inclusion. Strengthening healthy aging initiatives contributes to improving quality of life and building sustainable healthcare systems prepared for demographic transitions.
