Multidisciplinary Intervention in the Rehabilitation of Patients with Stroke

Abstract

Stroke (Cerebrovascular Accident) is a critical medical condition that results from the interruption of blood flow to the brain, causing damage to neural cells. There are two main types: ischemic stroke, which occurs when a cerebral artery is blocked by a clot, and hemorrhagic stroke, which happens when a blood vessel in the brain ruptures, causing bleeding. Both types of stroke have devastating consequences, such as paralysis, speech difficulties, and cognitive problems. Post-stroke rehabilitation is a challenging and multifaceted process that involves na integrated approach by healthcare professionals. The aim of this research is to analyze the role of the multidisciplinary team and the challenges faced in rehabilitating stroke patients. The methodology used was a qualitative bibliographic review, exploring the physical, emotional, and social aspects involved in the recovery process of these patients, with na emphasis on collaboration between physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, psychologists, nutritionists, and doctors. The integrated and coordinated approach between these professionals has proven essential to ensure effective recovery and improve the quality of life of patients. Multidisciplinary collaboration has led to significant improvements in motor and cognitive functions, promoting social reintegration and emotional recovery. Thus, post-stroke rehabilitation should be seen as a holistic process, where communication among professionals and continuous emotional support are key to the success of recovery.
