Multidisciplinary approach to the care of patients with cardiorespiratory arrest

Abstract

The objective of this study was to highlight the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in the care of patients undergoing cardiac arrest in clinical practice and the best practices to optimize patient outcomes. This is an integrative literature review, which sought to answer the guiding question "What is the multidisciplinary approach to the care of patients in cardiorespiratory arrest?". The search was carried out from July to August 2024 and conducted using databases indexed in the VHL: MEDLINE, SciELO, BDENF-Enfermagem and LILACS. The crossing of the DeCS descriptors: "Cardiorespiratory Arrest", "Interdisciplinary Communication", "Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation" and "Emergency Identification" was used, using advanced search tools and the descriptors were combined using the Boolean operator "AND". It resulted in 8 studies to compose the discussion. The multidisciplinary approach to the care of patients in CPA represents a significant evolution in the practice of emergency care. The integration of different disciplines, coupled with standardized protocols, ongoing training, and effective communication, can increase survival rates and improve the quality of post-PCR care. The results have important implications for clinical practice, suggesting that the adoption of a structured multidisciplinary approach can significantly improve patient outcomes in CA. Future studies should focus on identifying specific barriers to implementing this approach and developing strategies to overcome them. In addition, to investigate the impact of different training and simulation models on the effectiveness of the multidisciplinary team. It is concluded that the implementation of standardized protocols elaborated from reputable guidelines and effective communication improves the life rates of CA victims.
