Laparotomy is a critical surgical intervention for managing abdominal trauma, commonly used to stabilize patients with severe injuries and control internal bleeding. This article reviews the immediate and late outcomes associated with this surgical technique. The analysis reveals that while laparotomy is effective for quickly addressing acute situations, it is associated with various complications, both immediate and delayed, such as infections, adhesions, and intestinal obstructions. These complications can prolong recovery time and increase treatment costs. Minimally invasive alternatives, such as laparoscopy, have shown benefits in terms of shorter recovery times and fewer complications. It is essential for healthcare professionals to be aware of these issues to optimize postoperative management and consider minimally invasive methods when appropriate. Early identification and treatment of complications can significantly improve patient outcomes, promoting more effective recovery and reducing the long-term impact of injuries.
