Humanised care in the paediatric surgical environment: an integrative review

Abstract

Humanization of care began in the 2000s, with the aim of providing the most specialized and humane care possible. Launched by the Ministry of Health in 2003 as the National Humanization Policy (PNH), it was implemented in the early days in the public network. Humanization is the act of making an existing situation more sociable and humane. Making the surgical environment more pleasant for paediatric patients is the main way of avoiding harm to patients, where behaviour is indispensable. The aim of the study is to identify more humane strategies for paediatric care in the surgical environment. Identifying, describing and addressing the importance of humanized pediatric patient care in the surgical environment is the way to obtain the necessary strategies for specialized and humanized pediatric patient care. The implementation of a specialized environment and differentiated care can provide peace of mind, speed and safety in the patient's recovery in the surgical environment. The publications will be selected by meeting the pre-determined inclusion and exclusion criteria, among national and international publications, based on Portuguese and English established between the years 2016 to September 2024, in the LILACS, PUBMED, BDENF, MNL, MEDLINE, SciELO and Google Scholar databases. This study will contribute knowledge to nursing professionals in humanized care, reviewing care methods and improving patient behavior in the surgical environment.
