The nursing process in the perioperative period of orthopedic surgeries: Care strategies for patient safety and rehabilitation

Introduction: The Systematization of Perioperative Nursing Care (SAEP) and the Nursing Process (PE) are fundamental tools for safe and scientific clinical practice. When applied to orthopedic surgeries, they enable individualized and structured care in all phases of the perioperative period, promoting effective rehabilitation, risk reduction, and strengthening of the role of nurses in comprehensive care for surgical patients. Objective: To analyze the application of the nursing process in orthopedic surgeries. Methodology: Integrated literature review, collecting and summarizing existing scientific knowledge. Analysis and discussion of results: The Nursing Process is essential in the care of patients undergoing orthopedic surgeries such as meniscectomy, amputation, bone grafting, and arthroplasty. Each of these procedures has specificities, but all require systematic and individualized care to prevent complications and promote functional rehabilitation. The nurse's role encompasses pain management, infection control, emotional support, and promotion of self-care, aiming at safe and complete recovery. The use of NANDA-I 2024–2026 guides evidence-based diagnoses and interventions. Thus, nursing care contributes significantly to therapeutic success and improved quality of life for orthopedic patients. Conclusion: Orthopedic surgeries, such as meniscectomy, amputation, bone grafting, and arthroplasty, require integrated and systematic care. The Nursing Process guides evidence-based actions, promoting safety, functional rehabilitation, and self-care. Multidisciplinary and humanized care ensures full recovery and improved quality of life for patients.
