This article aims to review the existing literature on the risk factors associated with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and the most effective therapeutic approaches for managing this condition. PTSD is a serious psychiatric condition that can develop after exposure to traumatic events, such as accidents, assaults, natural disasters or war experiences. Characterized by persistent symptoms of re-experiencing the trauma, avoidance of stimuli associated with the event, negative changes in cognitions and mood, and hyperactivity, PTSD can cause significant suffering and dysfunction in the lives of affected individuals. The review of the literature on therapeutic approaches to treating PTSD highlights a variety of approaches that have demonstrated effectiveness in alleviating symptoms and improving patients' quality of life. Genetically, the predisposition to PTSD has been widely studied, with evidence suggesting that individuals with a family history of psychiatric disorders are at greater risk of developing PTSD.
