Abstract

Cervical cancer is one of the leading causes of mortality among women in various regions of the world, and effective screening during prenatal care is crucial for early detection and reducing associated mortality. This study investigated the effectiveness of cervical cancer (CCU) screening during prenatal care, highlighting gaps and opportunities to enhance early detection rates. The research employed an integrative literature review approach, covering studies published between 2014 and 2024, using databases such as BDENF, MEDLINE, and LILACS. The methodology involved analyzing data on the implementation and challenges of screening, focusing on aspects such as coverage, quality of exams, and access barriers. Results indicate that, despite the proven effectiveness of the Pap test in reducing CCU mortality, screening coverage remains insufficient, with regional variations and access difficulties. There is a need for strategies to expand coverage, improve infrastructure, and train healthcare professionals. Conclusions suggest that integration with Primary Health Care and female empowerment are essential for optimizing screening and promoting women's health.
