Abstract

Trigeminal Neuralgia, a condition characterized by intense episodes of facial pain that occur along the pathway of the trigeminal nerve, represents a significant clinical challenge due to its diagnostic and therapeutic complexity. This article aims to elucidate diagnostic methods, treatment options, and prognostic perspectives of this debilitating condition. Through a narrative literature review, we explore advanced imaging techniques, such as magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomography, which are essential for identifying nerve compression and evaluating vascular anomalies. Therapeutic approaches range from the use of anticonvulsant and antidepressant medications to more invasive interventions, such as radiofrequency rhizotomy and microvascular decompression. Treatment choice is influenced by the severity of symptoms and the impact on the patient's quality of life, promoting a personalized and evidence-based approach. The results indicate that the prognosis can be favorable with early diagnosis and appropriate intervention, although the management of chronic and recurrent pain remains challenging. This study highlights the importance of future research focused on optimizing diagnostic and therapeutic strategies, as well as a deeper understanding of the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying trigeminal neuralgia. Such investigations are crucial to improving clinical outcomes and patients' quality of life, encouraging the development of more effective and less invasive treatments. This article contributes to the literature by providing a comprehensive view of Trigeminal Neuralgia, emphasizing the need for continuous advancements in the field.
