Multiprofessional assistance in the stabilization of children with asthma and obesity in pediatric emergencies

Abstract

Multidisciplinary care is crucial for stabilizing children with asthma and obesity in pediatric emergencies, considering the high prevalence and complexity of these conditions. Asthma, a chronic inflammatory airway disease, is worsened by obesity, which not only complicates clinical management but also masks symptoms and increases resistance to pharmacological treatments. This integrated approach involves pediatricians, pulmonologists, physiotherapists, nutritionists, psychologists, and nurses, with interventions ranging from initial stabilization to promoting lifestyle changes. The study conducted a systematic review of 1,235 articles, which were narrowed down to 10 based on rigorous criteria. The research addressed outcomes such as hospitalization duration, readmission rates, and quality of life, emphasizing the importance of personalized protocols for children with comorbidities. Results demonstrated that multidisciplinary integration reduces complications, improves treatment adherence, and optimizes care. However, challenges persist, including adherence to lifestyle changes and access to specialized teams. It is concluded that multidisciplinary care is essential to improve clinical outcomes, promote long-term health, and ensure humanized care.
