Strategies for preventing complications in gestational health: the role of the multidisciplinary team in caring for high-risk pregnant women

Abstract

Gestational health directly impacts maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality indicators, in addition to affecting the quality of life of women and babies. Complications such as hypertension, gestational diabetes, and preterm births may arise or worsen during pregnancy, requiring an integrated, multiprofessional approach. The multiprofessional team plays a key role in the early identification of risks and the implementation of personalized interventions to ensure positive outcomes. Pregnancy involves biological, psychological, and social changes, and complications like preeclampsia and gestational diabetes require the integration of specialized professionals such as doctors, nurses, nutritionists, and psychologists, who together provide comprehensive and effective care, preventing severe complications and promoting the health of the mother and baby. A scoping review was conducted to map preventive strategies for gestational complications. The search included 152 articles, of which 134 were analyzed, and 35 were selected for full reading. After this stage, 10 studies were included in the final analysis. The research was conducted across five scientific databases, covering studies published between 2020 and 2024. The analysis revealed that the multiprofessional team is crucial in preventing gestational complications. Effective strategies include personalized clinical follow-up, educational interventions, and emotional support. Collaboration among professionals, such as doctors and nurses, and psychological support, have a positive impact on gestational health. However, the lack of resources and unequal access to services are barriers to overcome. The integrated work of the multiprofessional team is essential for preventing complications in gestational health.
