Impacts of multiprofessional intervention on the food and psychomotor stimulation of autistic children

Abstract

The Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) affects communication, behavior, and sensory skills, presenting challenges such as feeding difficulties and delays in motor development. The multiprofessional approach, which integrates nutritionists, therapists, and other professionals, is effective in addressing these limitations, aiming to improve food acceptance and motor development. This study aims to evaluate the impacts of these interventions on feeding and psychomotor stimulation. Children with ASD face feeding and psychomotor difficulties, such as food selectivity and delays in motor development. The joint action of professionals from different health areas can improve these aspects, promoting more balanced nutrition and motor development, which are essential for independence and social interaction. A systematic review of the literature was conducted to evaluate the impacts of multiprofessional intervention in ASD, focusing on studies published between 2020 and 2024. The analysis involved 56 studies, of which 12 were selected for final evaluation. The multiprofessional intervention showed improvements in food acceptance, motor skills, and the children’s quality of life. The integrated approach contributed to advancements in feeding and motor skills, reflecting greater independence and social interaction. The study confirms the effectiveness of multiprofessional intervention for children with ASD, highlighting the importance of personalizing strategies and engaging families in the therapeutic process. The interdisciplinary approach is essential for the overall development of these children.
