Abstract

Introduction: Systemic hypertension (SH) is a medical condition of great relevance due to its implications for global cardiovascular health. Despite the availability of effective pharmacological approaches, some patients continue to experience resistant hypertension, making blood pressure control difficult. In this context, neurointervention emerges as an innovative and promising strategy for the treatment of SH, with a focus on renal sympathetic denervation (RSD). The aim of this study is to provide a concise and informative overview of the current state of research in neurointervention, specifically renal sympathetic denervation (RSD), as a promising strategy for the control of systemic hypertension. The methodology involved a comprehensive and literature search of four electronic databases (PubMed, BVS, SCIELO, and Scopus), in which the selected articles were synthesized, offering a review of the literature. Based on the literature analysis, renal sympathetic denervation (RSD) emerges as an effective option for the treatment of resistant hypertension (RH), resulting in significant improvements in blood pressure levels in patients undergoing the procedure. However, the study reveals that the treatment's effectiveness is not uniform across all RH patients, highlighting the need for further research on renal sympathetic denervation and its long-term impact.
