Bacterial Endocarditis: diagnostic and therapeutic advances for cardiological practice

Bacterial endocarditis is a microbial infection of the endocardium with high morbidity and mortality, particularly prevalent in populations with risk factors such as valvopathies, prosthetic valves, and implantable electronic devices. This study reviews advances in epidemiology, etiological factors, clinical manifestations, and diagnostic criteria, with emphasis on the Modified Duke Criteria of 2023. Additionally, it discusses the most recent therapeutic approaches, including targeted antibiotic therapy and surgical indications, based on Brazilian, American, and European guidelines. The goal is to provide evidence-based resources for effective management in cardiological practice.
