Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) has emerged as a minimally invasive technique that is increasingly employed in the treatment of aortic stenosis, particularly in patients at higher surgical risk. This review article aims to present the main indications of this method, covering both degenerative valve disease and bicuspid valve pathology, in addition to describing the available types of prostheses, their contraindications, the most frequent complications, and the balance between risks and benefits. Furthermore, the article includes the latest national and international recommendations, in accordance with Brazilian, American, and European guidelines, as well as relevant studies published in this field.
