Abstract

The consumption of tea during pregnancy is a common practice, with chamomile tea (Matricaria chamomilla) widely used for its sedative and anti-inflammatory properties. However, its use may be associated with risks to fetal health, particularly concerning premature closure of the ductus arteriosus (PDA). This study reviews the existing literature on the use of chamomile tea during pregnancy and its possible relationship with PDA. Ten scientific articles addressing chamomile, fetal development, and ductus arteriosus closure were selected. The research showed that while moderate consumption of chamomile is generally considered safe, excessive intake may be associated with fetal cardiovascular complications. The review highlights the need for further studies to better understand the effects of chamomile tea on fetal health and to guide pregnant women on the safe use of teas. It is concluded that chamomile should be consumed with caution during pregnancy, especially in high quantities.
