Abstract

Bone marrow donation is essential for the treatment of various hematological diseases, and understanding the factors that influence this decision is crucial for increasing the number of donors. The need for more bone marrow donors became evident in light of alarming statistics regarding diseases that can be treated with transplantation, such as leukemias and lymphomas. This study aimed to investigate the factors affecting people's willingness to become bone marrow donors. A review of the existing literature was conducted, addressing social, cultural, and psychological aspects that may impact the donation decision. The analysis revealed that a lack of knowledge and awareness about the donation process and the benefits associated with bone marrow transplantation are still significant barriers. The results indicated that educational campaigns and community initiatives play a fundamental role in promoting bone marrow donation. Thus, it is concluded that effective awareness strategies can increase the number of donors, saving lives and improving the quality of treatment for patients in need. This research contributes to understanding the dynamics involved in bone marrow donation and suggests pathways for future interventions.
