Multidisciplinary approach in postpartum care for lactating mothers: integration of nutrition, medicine, psychology, and nursing for comprehensive support to mother and baby

The postpartum period is crucial for maternal and infant health and requires comprehensive care that extends beyond immediate medical needs. This study investigates the importance of a multiprofessional approach, integrating nutrition, medicine, psychology, and nursing, to provide comprehensive support to mothers and babies. The research, based on an integrative literature review, selected 15 relevant articles published between 2000 and 2024. Results reveal that the integration of these areas significantly enhances the physical and emotional recovery of mothers and benefits the health of newborns. The study emphasizes the need for continued postpartum follow-up, professional training, and evidence-based interventions. The multiprofessional approach proves essential for optimizing postpartum care, fostering a positive maternal experience, and improving health outcomes. The research underscores the need for policies that promote interdisciplinary collaboration and the implementation of integrated strategies for maternal and infant care.
